The start of a new school year is an exciting time filled with fresh beginnings, new friendships, and endless opportunities to learn and grow. Whether your child is joining us for the very first time or returning for another wonderful year, it’s normal for both children and parents to experience a mix of excitement and nervousness.

At Bright Side Early Care & Learning Center, we’re committed to making the transition as smooth and positive as possible. Here are some helpful tips to set your family up for a successful school year.
Start Preparing Early
Children thrive on routine, so begin easing into your school schedule a few days before school starts. Gradually adjust bedtimes, wake-up times, and meal schedules to match your child’s school routine.
Talking positively about school and what they can expect also helps children feel confident and excited about the new year ahead.
Create a Calm Morning Routine
Mornings don’t have to feel rushed.
Try preparing the night before by:
- Packing lunches
- Filling water bottles
- Laying out clothes
- Packing backpacks
- Reviewing the next day’s schedule
Starting the day calmly helps children begin school feeling relaxed and ready to learn.

Make Drop-Off Positive and Confident
For many children, saying goodbye can be one of the hardest parts of the day.
Keep drop-offs short, positive, and consistent. A warm hug, a smile, and reassuring words like, “I’ll see you this afternoon. I know you’re going to have a great day!” help build confidence.
Although it can be tempting to linger if your child is upset, children often settle more quickly after a confident goodbye. Our CHAMPS are experienced in helping children transition into their day with comfort, encouragement, and plenty of care.
Arrive Ready to Learn
Arriving on time allows children to participate in morning routines, greetings, and learning activities alongside their classmates.
The beginning of the day sets the tone for everything that follows. Children who arrive on time have the opportunity to ease into their classroom, connect with friends, and begin their day feeling included and prepared.
Label Everything
Backpacks, lunchboxes, water bottles, jackets, sweaters, and extra clothing all look surprisingly similar!
Clearly labeling your child’s belongings helps ensure items make it back home and allows teachers to quickly identify personal items throughout the day.
Dress for Learning and Play
Children learn best when they’re comfortable.
Choose clothing that allows them to move, explore, climb, paint, and play freely. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing help children fully enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities.
Don’t forget to keep an extra set of clothes at school just in case of spills, accidents, or messy fun!
Stay Connected
Communication between home and school is one of the most important parts of a successful school year.
Stay connected by checking classroom updates, reading messages, asking questions, and sharing important information with your child’s teachers. Working together helps us provide the very best experience for every child.
Encourage Independence
Even small responsibilities help children build confidence.
Depending on their age, encourage your child to:
- Carry their own backpack.
- Put away their belongings.
- Wash their hands independently.
- Help clean up after activities.
- Make simple choices throughout the day.
These everyday skills build responsibility and prepare children for future success.

Celebrate Effort, Not Perfection
Every child adjusts to school differently.
Some children jump right in, while others need a little extra time. Celebrate small victories like making a new friend, trying a new activity, learning a classroom routine, or saying goodbye with confidence.
Every accomplishment deserves recognition.
Partner with Your Child’s Teachers
Parents and teachers share the same goal: helping children thrive.
Don’t hesitate to ask questions, share concerns, or celebrate milestones together. Building a strong partnership creates consistency between home and school and gives children the confidence they need to succeed.
At Bright Side, we value the trust families place in us and believe that open communication is one of the greatest tools for supporting children’s growth.

Looking Ahead to a Wonderful Year
Every school year brings new opportunities to discover, create, explore, and build lifelong friendships. From hands-on learning and outdoor adventures to Bible lessons, creative art projects, music, sensory exploration, STEM activities, and social-emotional learning, each day is designed to help children grow academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
Our CHAMPS are excited to welcome every child with open arms and create a classroom where each child feels safe, valued, encouraged, and loved.
Together, let’s make this school year one filled with curiosity, confidence, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Here’s to a wonderful year of learning, growing, and shining bright-together!
